Gathering for Gaza 10th October – Archive

  • Archive

Please join us for this very important Gathering for Gaza on Saturday, 10th October, 2026 at 11.00 – 12.30 pm opposite Waterstones, Abergavenny.

Three years have passed since Israel launched its genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. A ceasefire took effect on October 10th 2025 but attacks and killings have continued.

Here is where things stand in numbers According to Al Jazeera.

1 out of 30  people in Gaza killed.  Three years of Israeli attacks have killed at least 74,000 Palestinians, including 21,000 children.  The Palestinian Ministry of Health counts only deaths recorded at hospitals or officially registered.  The true toll is likely much higher, as it excludes the thousands still still buried under rubble or missing.

1 out of 13 people in Gaza wounded.  More than 175,000 people have been wounded.  A conservative WHO estimate suggests roughly 24 per cent of the wounded have life-changing injuries, requiring long-term rehabilitation, a quarter of them are children.

A ‘ceasefire’ in name only. Since the so-called ceasefire took effect on  one year ago, Israel has violated it with near-daily attacks killing at least 1,460 Palestinians and injuring 5,116.

94 per cent of all hospitals and clinics damaged.  Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, hospitals must not be attacked and international humanitarian law gives medical units and personnel special protection.

UN experts say most of the water and sanitation network has been damaged or destroyed.  Nearly all homes destroyed or damaged leaving 1.98 million displaced  – that is 90 per cent of the population. 93 per cent of all schools require complete re-construction and 63 university buildings have been destroyed. More than 700,000 students without access to formal education.

I know this makes grim reading but this is why our presence at vigils is so important and we have seen a definite change and more positive response  from those early days of our Gatherings for Gaza.
