Land Day – 30th March – Online Event

Today we join the Palestinian people in observing Yom al-Ard, Land Day. This is held every 30 March to commemorate the ongoing struggle against Israel’s settler-colonial land grabs and to honour Palestinian land defenders of past and present.

This evening at 6 PM we’re holding an online event with a distinguished line-up of Palestinian scholars and activists who will speak about the escalating threat of ethnic cleansing and the inspiring ways in which Palestinians are resisting.  Join us online tonight—no need to pre-register, just tune in to our YouTube channel at 6PM.

This year Land Day falls in the wake of Israel’s reintroduction of the colonial land registration regulations in the West Bank, which amounts to a mass land grab. As Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues, and attacks on communities in the ’48 territory increase, all Palestinians in their historic homeland and in exile will continue to raise awareness of the stakes of this ongoing Nakba; honouring, protecting and preserving their unbreakable connection to their land.    This webinar will serve as a part of that important mission, featuring renowned Palestinian scholars and activists including the eminent scholar and founder/President of the Palestine Land Society Dr. Salman Abu Sitta; anthropologist and film-maker Dr. Kholoud al Ajarma; and climate justice activist and scholar Dr. Manal Shqair. The event will be chaired by PSC Vice Chair Iyas Al Qasem.   Tonight’s event, co-organised by PSC and the Stop the JNF Campaign, will give special focus to the close relationship between the Israeli state and the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in carrying out land grabs. As is often the case, the direct connection back to Britain is not abstract, as the JNF’s British wing operates a charity here, serving as a major fundraiser and propaganda outlet for Israel’s apartheid and genocide. Tonight’s event will also feature important updates about the campaign to oppose JNF-UK’s permission to maintain charitable status in Britain.  In the face of Israel’s horrific violence, Palestinians continue to organise, resist oppression and reach out to us, the solidarity movement, with a clear message asking us to escalate our campaigns and deepen our resolve to support the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom, justice and return!

P.S. You can purchase Dr. Salman Abu Sitta’s detailed Atlas of Palestine from the PSC online shop, which he has recently updated with new maps and information. These incredible books show decades of his incredible research on the dispossession of the Palestinian people, as well as the richness of Palestinian life in Palestine before the Nakba.
